The idea of "corporate social responsibility" was not around when we started giving back over 30 years ago. Combined with the generous help from a number of guests, we have successfully donated thousands of books, built classrooms and school facilities, supported orphanages, created scholarships and apprenticeships, installed solar systems for rural schools, funded national exams for safari guides and supported a great number of conservation initiatives. Several beneficiaries of the Royal African Foundation scholarship program have gone on to earn graduate and post graduate degrees from local and international universities.
Some years ago, we made the decision to formalize the structure of giving back and founded the Royal African Foundation as a registered 501(c)3 charity. Sammy Leseita, who was one of the pupils in the first classroom we built in Northern Kenya and then went on to earn a Masters from Harvard is now the Foundation Coordinator. Read more.
