PARTNERS > RICHARD COKE
Richard's passion for wildlife, nature and the wilderness developed from early childhood. Growing up in South Africa's Kwazulu-Natal, it became his dream to transform this interest into a life long career. In 1988 his family moved to Norfolk, England where they started a new life, farming. Richard completed high school and went onto study agriculture. However, it was not long after finishing agricultural college and working in different facets of the agricultural industry that he was drawn back to Africa to pursue the passion that was always so close to his heart. For the next eighteen months he backpacked into different regions of Africa, taking this opportunity to immerse himself in the local cultures and explore some of the many wilderness areas still protected by the continent's borders.
In early 1998, Richard made his dream a reality when he started leading people into the Drakensberg Mountains to visit San bushman painting sites. A year later he moved to Namibia exploring with his guests one of the world's oldest deserts, the Namib, and the ancient linear oases of the Kaokoveld. In this unique environment, Richard evolved a true understanding of nature's intricate web and developed a particular fondness for elephant.
In 2001 Richard moved to Botswana and spent the next seven years immersed in the Okavango Delta, the Linyanti and the Kalahari. Within these remote and pristine areas he learned the true essence of safari and discovered his innate ability to bridge the gap between man and the natural environment. Richard shifted his focus to tailor-making exclusive safaris for his guests and guiding them throughout Eastern and Southern Africa. This Pan-African experience allows Richard to seamlessly navigate from one country and habitat to the next, sharing not only the first hand knowledge he has acquired over the past thirteen years but also his unsurpassed enthusiasm and genuine love of the wilderness, wildlife and its local people. Richard is a keen photographer and as such prefers to take the time to really observe and interpret the wildlife, sharing his insights and effectively capturing moments. He is also a qualified walking guide and enjoys time spent on foot in the heart of the African bush, tuning into the world from the perspective of the wildlife.
In between guiding safaris, Richard and his wife Kerry continue to travel and explore new and unique destinations for future adventures.
