ASSOCIATE PARTNERS > SHANE HEDGES
Shane was born in 1992, where the Okavango Delta meets the Kalahari sands, in the small town of Maun, Botswana. He was fortunate enough to grow up in one of the most beautiful places in the world, The Okavango Delta, which was recently proclaimed a world heritage site.
Shane developed a passion for the African wilderness at an early age. By the time he was two weeks old he was already “on safari” with his parents Adam & Brigitte Hedges. This passion has been the constant throughout Shane's life, and he would like nothing more than to be able to share the privilege of experiencing the African bush with future generations.
Shane has had the honor of being the third generation of Hedges running safaris on the African content. His heritage lies in Kenya where his grandfather Richard Hedges started up one of the original overland safari tours in Kenya. In its heyday the Turkana bus was so popular that even Kenyans would sign up for a week of adventure.
In 1983 Shane's father moved down to Botswana in search of a new untouched territory in which to start up his own safari company, and in 1996 he joined Royal African Safaris. Being born and raised in Botswana provided for a unique and adventurous childhood. Many ask what it is like to live in Botswana but there are no words that can paint the picture of this wondrous place. You simply have to experience it.
Shane earned a degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in Environmental Studies. Now he is bringing his knowledge back to Botswana in an effort to help the country develop sustainably, focusing primarily on Botswana's world heritage site, the Okavango Delta. Guiding is not only a passion for Shane, it is also a tool for conservation.
